In an exclusive conversation with Oluwatobi Aladekoye, the Civil Engineering prodigy shared insights into the discipline, resilience, and faith that guided him from a modest public-school background to becoming one of FUTA’s finest scholars.

A Journey That Began With Determination

Akindunbi gained admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 2019, stepping onto campus with excitement and a laser-focused goal: to give his very best. But after his first semester, where he earned a remarkable 4.95 CGPA, that goal evolved into something bigger — the pursuit of excellence at the highest level.

His Background and What Keeps Him Grounded

Hailing from Ijero Local Government Area in Ekiti State, the scholar attended Divine Favour Nursery and Primary School before continuing at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure. His passion lies in sustainable infrastructure, and he describes himself as a leader, a collaborator, a creative mind, and a lifelong learner.

Beyond academics, he loves football, creative online content, and video editing — a hobby he still nurtures. But above all, he says one thing keeps him rooted: his faith in God.

The Role of Discipline, Mentorship, and Strategy

Akindunbi credits much of his success to structured planning and mentorship. At the start of every semester, he designed his own study timetable, using insights from senior colleagues to rank course difficulty. He balanced day and night study sessions, ensuring consistency without burnout.

He also highlighted the influence of supportive coursemates such as Aloba Bolarinwa Victor, Michael Agwulonu, Olatunji Damilare, and Oluwole Jacob — peers who shared academic strategies that shaped his journey.

Overcoming Challenges on the Path to Victory

Despite his stellar academic performance, his journey was far from easy.
He battled severe tooth pain during 300-level exams, a skin infection in the second semester, and even had his phone stolen just five days before another major exam.

Yet, he persevered.

His mindset? Challenges are simply “bridges that must be crossed.” With a determined spirit and a circle of motivating friends, he remained focused.

Study Techniques That Set Him Apart

To fully master his courses, he revisited topics repeatedly until he could teach them to others — a method he says deepened his understanding. His passion for imparting knowledge, he noted, was one of his greatest academic strengths.

What Comes Next?

Akindunbi plans to expand his hands-on experience in Civil Engineering and eventually pursue further studies in sustainable infrastructure — a field he believes holds immense potential for national development.
