The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has announced a call for applications for its 2026/2027 Erasmus Staff Mobility Programme, offering selected academic staff the opportunity to participate in an international training programme in Spain.

The initiative, organised under the Erasmus+ KA171 CEIA3 Consortium, is tailored towards enhancing staff capacity, fostering global academic collaboration, and strengthening research competencies—particularly within agriculture-related disciplines.

According to details released by the university, the programme will feature a specialised training week scheduled for September 2026, with participating institutions including leading Spanish universities such as the University of Almería, University of Cádiz, University of Córdoba, University of Huelva, and University of Jaén.

The opportunity, however, is highly competitive, as only one academic staff member from FUTA will be selected. Eligible applicants must be senior academics—ranging from Senior Lecturer to Professor—within the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology.

In addition to academic qualifications, applicants are required to meet strict conditions, including being medically fit and possessing a valid international passport with at least nine months’ validity from the programme’s commencement date. A crucial requirement also mandates candidates to secure a prior invitation from any of the participating European partner universities before their application can be considered.

The Erasmus mobility programme, a flagship initiative of the European Union, is widely recognised for promoting international academic exchange, research collaboration, and professional development across institutions worldwide.

Interested candidates are expected to submit three hard copies of their application, alongside supporting documents such as a curriculum vitae and passport data page, to the designated department within the university. The deadline for submission has been fixed for May 15, 2026.

University authorities described the programme as part of FUTA’s broader commitment to global engagement and staff development, noting that participation will expose beneficiaries to advanced agricultural practices, innovative teaching methods, and international research networks.

The move underscores the growing trend among Nigerian universities to leverage global partnerships in boosting academic excellence and institutional competitiveness.
