FUT Minna to Graduate 5,297 Students, 111 Bag First Class at 34th Convocation

The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, will on Sunday, February 1, graduate a total of 5,297 students, with 111 earning First-Class honours.

The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, will on Sunday, February 1, graduate a total of 5,297 students, with 111 earning First-Class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Kuta, disclosed this on Monday in Minna during a press briefing ahead of the institution’s 43rd Founders’ Day and 34th Convocation Ceremony.

Clarifying concerns about holding the convocation on a Sunday, Kuta said the date coincides with the university’s Founders’ Day and was not meant to undermine religious observances.

“The Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, February 1, coincides with our 43rd Founders’ Day — a moment to honour the visionaries who laid the foundation of this institution and to celebrate excellence through prize awards and degree conferment,” he said.

According to him, the dual event is designed to celebrate the institution’s heritage while recognising outstanding academic achievements.

Providing a breakdown of graduands for the 2024/2025 academic session, the vice-chancellor said out of 4,438 first-degree recipients, 111 earned First Class, 1,525 secured Second Class Upper, 2,134 obtained Second Class Lower, 631 achieved Third Class, while 37 graduated with Pass degrees.

In addition, 73 candidates will receive Postgraduate Diplomas, 633 will be awarded Master’s degrees, and 153 will earn Doctorate degrees.

“These achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to academic excellence despite prevailing challenges,” Kuta said.

He also announced key institutional milestones, including FUT Minna’s recent success in securing a N1 billion TETFund Agricultural Commercial Farm Grant.

The vice-chancellor added that the university attracted two major international research grants in 2025 — a $3 million ICT Development grant from Agence Française de Développement and a £15,000 Open Access Books grant from the United Kingdom.

Kuta further revealed the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology, fully approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with pioneer students already commencing academic activities in the 2025/2026 academic session.

On student welfare, he said the university is improving on-campus accommodation and expressed appreciation to philanthropists supporting efforts to expand housing facilities for students.
