The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, has matriculated 2,390 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, including pioneer intakes into newly introduced programmes in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Procurement Management, Petroleum Information Management, Entrepreneurship, Petroleum Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
Addressing the fresh students at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ezekiel Agbalagba, charged them to embrace discipline, responsibility and academic excellence, urging them to take full advantage of the university’s learning resources, mentorship structures and innovation-driven environment.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Chiedu Uwabor, the vice-chancellor encouraged the students to allow excellence and relevance guide both their academic pursuits and character development, stressing that the freedoms of university life must be exercised with integrity and sound judgement.
“FUPRE maintains a zero-tolerance policy for cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, cybercrime and all forms of misconduct. These vices can jeopardise your academic future and personal growth,” Agbalagba warned.
The vice-chancellor also highlighted FUPRE’s rising national and international profile. He cited the first-place victory of the university’s Chemical Engineering Hackathon team, “The Alchemists,” at the 2025 Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers National Student Convention in Enugu.
He further disclosed that three FUPRE scholars were recently ranked among the top two per cent of scientists worldwide in the Stanford University–Elsevier Global Ranking, while the institution received the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Golden Jubilee Award for its contributions to petroleum education.
The ceremony attracted top university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Omosede Osafile; Registrar, Dr. Jane Omoyine; the Bursar, represented by Mr. Joshua Eruteyan; University Librarian, Prof. Mercy Anyaegbu; and Deans of the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Technology, Maritime and Offshore Studies, and Petroleum Administration and Management.
Directors, Heads of Departments and Unit heads were also present, as the institution reaffirmed its commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped to thrive in the petroleum, energy and broader global sectors.
