OYE-EKITI – The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two senior staff members and the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) following allegations of illicit financial collections from the student body.
The suspension, announced Tuesday by the University Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, follows a wave of complaints regarding an unauthorized levy imposed on 100-level students.
The Affected Individuals
The suspended officials include:

Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.

Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services.

James Iyanuoluwa Adio, President of the Students’ Union Government.
Findings of the Fact-Finding Committee
The university launched a preliminary investigation following a petition alleging that the trio had been collecting N1,000 from each 100-level student, purportedly to cover costs for practical sessions managed by the directorate.
In his statement, Registrar Ibrahim emphasized that the university adhered to the principles of natural justice, granting all accused parties the opportunity to appear before a fact-finding committee and respond to the allegations.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Ogunjobi allegedly initiated and authorized the collection of these funds without securing the mandatory approval from the university’s central administration. While the specific level of involvement for the other parties remains under scrutiny, their suspension serves as a procedural measure to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Institutional Stance
University management has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward the exploitation of students. "The institution remains committed to protecting our students from any form of extortion and ensuring that all financial transactions are conducted in strict compliance with established university procedures," the Registrar noted.
The university has indicated that these suspensions are an immediate, interim measure while further administrative procedures are concluded. The administration continues to urge staff and student leaders to operate within the bounds of due process to maintain the academic and moral standards of the institution.
