Jos, Plateau State – In a gripping finale that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the FUOYE Queens have clinched the NUGA female football title, overcoming defending champions UNILAG with a hard-fought 2–1 victory.
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Queens entered the final with a renewed sense of purpose. Their journey was not without drama: they initially lost 2–1 to the host institution, the University of Jos (UNIJOS), in the semi-finals. But a major twist unfolded when FUOYE formally protested that UNIJOS had fielded ineligible players.
Tournament officials launched a full investigation, and after re-accrediting the players, UNIJOS was disqualified. This decision cleared the path for FUOYE to face UNILAG in the championship match.
A Final Filled With Passion and Precision
The Queens seized the opportunity with confidence. Their star striker opened the scoring early with a brilliant finish that stunned the UNILAG defense. Maintaining momentum, FUOYE extended their lead to 2–0 as the match progressed.
UNILAG mounted a late surge, pulling a goal back in the closing minutes, but FUOYE’s backline held firm. The final whistle sealed a historic triumph for the Ekiti-based team, sparking jubilant celebrations both on the pitch and in the stands.
