Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities at the University of Jos on Monday staged a peaceful protest over unresolved welfare issues and delays in the renegotiation of agreements with the Federal Government.

The protesting workers marched from the university’s main gate to the Senate Building, chanting solidarity songs while demanding improved welfare conditions and the full implementation of previously signed agreements with government authorities.

The demonstration comes amid a nationwide industrial action declared by the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU, which directed members across universities and inter-university centres to embark on a total strike effective May 1, 2026.

Union leaders said the action followed a meeting with officials of the Federal Ministry of Education that ended without a new offer or a clear timeline for concluding the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement governing non-teaching staff.

They maintained that the strike would continue indefinitely until all outstanding demands are addressed and implemented.

The unions are insisting on improved welfare packages, implementation of agreed terms, and a conclusive review of long-standing agreements affecting their members nationwide.
