Nigeria’s First Lady, **Senator Oluremi Tinubu**, has awarded scholarships to **47 students** from tertiary institutions across the country through her flagship intervention programme, the **Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)**.
The beneficiaries, drawn from disciplines including Medicine, Law, Engineering, Education, Sciences, and the Humanities, are at various levels of study: five in 400 Level, 39 in 300 Level, two in 200 Level, and one National Diploma (ND II) student.
At a **Mid-Term Assessment and Interactive Session** with RHI/NASP National Scholars, held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the State House, Abuja, each student received **₦1 million as the third tranche of their scholarship award** alongside a **brand-new laptop**.
The First Lady, who also chairs the RHI, was joined by the wife of the Vice President and RHI Vice Chairman, **Hajia Nana Shettima**, the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Abdullahi, and other dignitaries, including wives of senior government officials.
In her remarks, Senator Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to youth empowerment, stressing that the initiative was motivated by passion, not politics.
> “This is not about politics; it is about people’s lives. Just like in the past when I gave out scholarships, I ask you—what do you also bring to the table? We want you to grow, explore opportunities, and add value, without compromising your studies,” she said.
She further expressed optimism that the scheme would outlive the current administration.
> “We pray that the President will have a second term so that this programme continues. Regardless, this is a scheme we must sustain,” she added.
The Minister of Education praised the First Lady’s efforts, noting that they complement government initiatives such as bursaries, scholarships, and the **Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)**. He disclosed that, in the last two years, the government had awarded **12,434 bursaries worth ₦10 billion** and **scholarships valued at ₦4 billion to 8,535 students**, while NELFUND had disbursed approximately **₦100 billion to over 500,000 students nationwide**.
RHI National Secretary and wife of Imo State Governor, **Mrs Chioma Uzodimma**, congratulated the beneficiaries, stating that all had maintained at least a **3.0 GPA**, while NITDA’s DG described the scholarship as a “life-changing intervention.”
Other dignitaries in attendance included **Mrs Salamatu Gbajabiamila**, wife of the Chief of Staff to the President, and **Prof Olufolake AbdulRazaq**, Chairperson of the Governors’ Wives Forum and wife of the Kwara State Governor.
