The governor announced the policy expansion on Sunday during the grand finale and award presentation ceremony of the maiden Katsina State Students’ Week held at Bayero University, Kano.

Radda explained that the move is aimed at attracting highly skilled and talented individuals into the state civil service to enhance efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.

According to him, the policy was initially introduced for first-class graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other tertiary institutions within Katsina State. However, the government has now broadened the initiative to accommodate all Katsina indigenes who graduate with first-class honours from any higher institution in the country.

“When I assumed office, I introduced automatic employment for students who graduated with first-class degrees. We implemented this policy at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other institutions located in Katsina State,” the governor said.

“Today, I am pleased to expand the offer to all Katsina State students across the country who graduate with first-class degrees from this year onward.

“This decision is deliberate. By recruiting more first-class graduates into the civil service, Katsina State can build one of the most efficient and productive public services in Nigeria within the next 10 to 15 years,” he added.

Radda noted that the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader commitment to strengthening the education sector and investing in human capital development.

He disclosed that the government has prioritised the settlement of outstanding scholarship obligations and increased bursary allowances to support students in completing their academic pursuits.

The governor further stated that ongoing investments in education have contributed to reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state while helping to curb youth involvement in criminal activities.

Reaffirming education as a key pillar of his administration, Radda revealed that a significant portion of the state budget has consistently been allocated to the sector. He added that the government has recruited more than 10,000 teachers, constructed new schools, and renovated educational facilities across the state.

The governor urged students to remain committed to their studies and contribute meaningfully to the development of Katsina State, expressing pride in the achievements recorded by students from the state.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Haruna Musa-Muhammad, commended Governor Radda for his student-friendly policies and sustained support for education.

He particularly lauded the expansion of the state scholarship programme and pledged the university’s readiness to collaborate with the Katsina State Government in advancing educational development.

Earlier, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters and convener of the event, Muhammad Nagaske, said the Katsina State Students’ Week was organised to promote unity among students, encourage academic excellence, celebrate cultural heritage, and identify emerging talents.

The week-long programme attracted Katsina students studying in higher institutions across Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, and several other states. Outstanding participants in sports competitions, academic contests, and cultural displays were recognised and rewarded with prizes during the closing ceremony.
