The Federal Government has launched a nationwide digital learning initiative aimed at widening access to quality education for primary and secondary school pupils, as the country grapples with a shortage of more than 1.2 million teachers across all levels.
The new programme, known as the “Inspire Live(s)! Online Real-Time Classes Initiative,” is designed to bridge the gap in qualified teaching personnel and ensure uninterrupted learning for children regardless of their location.
In a statement issued by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the initiative uses technology to deliver live, interactive lessons directly to learners. She noted that the platform “democratises access to quality education and guarantees that no child is left behind.”
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full-scale implementation is in progress, with plans to extend coverage from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3. While online classes for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools are ready to commence, the primary school segment is still awaiting rollout.
According to the ministry, the programme is open to both public and private schools nationwide.
For now, the Inspire platform streams daily online classes for JSS 1, JSS 2, and SS 2, with live sessions scheduled Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Subjects available for Junior Secondary School include:
Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies.
For Senior Secondary School, subjects offered include:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
Boriowo added that all classes will be taught by certified master teachers using Cisco Webex for delivery. To ensure smooth implementation across the country, the ministry has directed state commissioners of education to:

Appoint a State Focal Officer for programme coordination

Circulate details to all public and private school principals

Ensure participating schools have basic ICT equipment and internet connectivity

Oversee school registrations through the Inspire support channels
The Federal Government says the programme marks a major step toward closing Nigeria’s educational gaps and equipping students with equal learning opportunities through technology.
