The Federal Government has intensified measures to safeguard schools nationwide under its Safe School Initiative, following a high-level visit by the Minister of Education and the Minister of State for Education to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abuja.

The visit focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, enhancing operational coordination and assessing the activities of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC), a central mechanism established to address security threats facing educational institutions across the country.

According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the engagement provided an opportunity to review progress recorded in the implementation of school safety frameworks nationwide. The delegation toured facilities at the NSSRCC, described as a strategic command hub responsible for monitoring, coordinating and responding to security incidents and vulnerabilities affecting schools.

The Ministry disclosed that it has formalised a partnership with the NSCDC to reinforce the protection of learners and educational infrastructure. A key component of this collaboration is the deployment of a real-time school safety tracking system designed to monitor institutions, identify potential risks and enable rapid response interventions when necessary.

Officials revealed that thousands of schools have already been onboarded onto the NSSRCC portal, with ongoing efforts to integrate additional public and private institutions across the federation. The digital tracking platform is expected to strengthen data-driven decision-making and accelerate emergency responses to security and infrastructural threats within school environments.

The Ministry reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensuring that every Nigerian child, regardless of socio-economic background or geographic location, has access to safe and inclusive learning spaces. Education authorities emphasised that school safety remains a national priority, particularly amid prevailing security challenges in parts of the country.

Stakeholders and members of the public seeking more information on the initiative are encouraged to visit the official website of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre for updates, resources and school onboarding guidelines.
