Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to strengthening collaboration with state governments to expand access to quality education and tackle the nation’s persistent out-of-school children challenge.

The assurance was highlighted in a policy update from the Federal Ministry of Education, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts between federal and state authorities to implement sustainable reforms across the education sector.

At the heart of this initiative was the maiden peer-learning webinar convened by the Council of State Commissioners of Education Nigeria (COSCEN). The session provided a platform for shared learning, policy alignment, and collaborative problem-solving to address barriers preventing millions of children from attending school.

Education stakeholders stressed that lasting progress depends on shared accountability, harmonized planning, and data-driven interventions. Aligning state-level strategies with national priorities, officials noted, is crucial for improving enrollment, retention, and learning outcomes across the country.

The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education was also highlighted as a key player in expanding access to education for vulnerable populations. The commission continues to implement targeted programmes aimed at reintegrating out-of-school children and enhancing retention in underserved communities.

Authorities reaffirmed that closing Nigeria’s education gap requires unified leadership, sustained cooperation across all levels of government, and a focus on innovation and accountability as essential drivers of progress.
