The Federal Government has successfully conducted the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination for admission into Federal and State Technical Colleges across the country, marking another step in its drive to modernise Nigeria’s education assessment system.
The examination, which was held nationwide, featured a pilot Computer-Based Test (CBT) session coordinated by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) alongside the traditional paper-based examination.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade.
According to the ministry, the exercise was conducted smoothly across examination centres, including the Federal Technical College, Orozo, and Government Secondary School, Garki, in Abuja.
Representing the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Director of Technology and Science Education, Mrs. Patricia Ogungbemi, monitored the exercise and urged candidates to embrace technical and vocational education as a viable pathway to self-reliance, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable employment.
Ogungbemi highlighted the numerous opportunities available to graduates of technical colleges, noting that the institutions equip students with practical, industry-relevant skills while also providing access to government-backed programmes designed to stimulate job creation and economic growth.
A key highlight of the examination was the pilot CBT session conducted immediately after the conventional examination. The initiative, according to the ministry, was designed to evaluate the preparedness of candidates and examination bodies for a future transition to a fully computer-based examination system.
“The successful conduct of both exercises underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to digital transformation, assessment integrity, and quality technical education,” the statement noted.
The pilot CBT exercise aligns with ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to digitise entrance and public examinations nationwide. The move follows recent technology-driven reforms introduced in major examination bodies, including the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations.
