Abuja, Nigeria — February 3, 2026 — The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe has approved the dismissal of four senior officers of the institution following findings of gross misconduct, in a decisive move aimed at strengthening accountability and institutional discipline.
At its seventh meeting held on January 31, 2026, in Abuja, the council resolved to terminate the appointments of the Registrar, Alhaji Umar Bello; the College Librarian, Yusuf Aliyu; the Director of Works and Services, Muhammad Malam; and Ibrahim Shehu, who served on the Governing Council as a representative of the Non-Teaching Staff Congregation.
According to a statement released by the college’s Acting Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Dahiru Gurama, the dismissals followed earlier suspensions and were grounded in the findings and recommendations of investigative panels established by both the Federal Ministry of Education and the college’s Governing Council. These committees reportedly uncovered multiple breaches of conduct that warranted their removal.
The council described the action as part of its commitment to due process, accountability and good governance within the college’s administrative framework.
To ensure continuity in leadership, the council also appointed Mallam Haruna N. Ayuba — the most senior Deputy Registrar — as Acting Registrar with immediate effect.
In reaction to the development, the Provost of the college, Professor Ali Adamu, reiterated the institution’s resolve to uphold transparency, discipline and integrity in accordance with federal regulations governing tertiary institutions.
The move signals intensified oversight and enforcement of professional standards within Nigeria’s college education sector, positioning the Gombe institution as part of broader efforts to reinforce ethical conduct among academic administrators.
