It was a day of celebration at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lifegate Cathedral Parish, Ado-Ekiti, on Sunday as the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), **Professor Joseph Ayodele**, marked his first anniversary in office with a grand thanksgiving service.
The event drew a mammoth crowd of family members, friends, staff, students, alumni, unions, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the milestones achieved by the institution under his leadership in the past year.
In his address, Professor Ayodele expressed deep gratitude to God for the grace to serve and highlighted his administration’s strides in infrastructure, teaching, research, and welfare. He acknowledged the pivotal support of Governor **Biodun Oyebanji**, praising his consistent backing since his emergence as Vice Chancellor.
The EKSU helmsman also paid tribute to his predecessor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, for providing mentorship that ensured a smooth transition into office. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising staff and students’ welfare, calling for unity and collaboration among stakeholders to sustain progress.
> “The past year has been glorious because of God’s support. Every step forward is proof of His grace. With the encouragement of government, alumni, our governing council, and students, we are confident of greater achievements,” he said.
Looking ahead, Professor Ayodele outlined ambitious plans for his second year, including renovation of dilapidated facilities, expansion of learning spaces, and the establishment of new faculties. He noted the urgent need for purpose-built structures such as Law, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, and Dentistry buildings to cater for the university’s growing student population.
The thanksgiving service also featured a sermon titled *“Life is a Stage”* delivered by Pastor Tunde Adelusi, who described the Vice Chancellor as a transformational leader and urged him to remain steadfast in his mission of repositioning EKSU as a centre of excellence.
The atmosphere was filled with joy as the EKSU community prayed for continued progress, leaving the service with renewed optimism that Professor Ayodele’s vision would elevate the university to greater heights.
