Ekiti Philanthropist Awards Scholarships to 17 Outstanding Students

Seventeen exceptional students from three secondary schools in Ekiti State have received N100,000 each in scholarship awards for their outstanding academic achievements, courtesy of philanthropist and..

The beneficiaries were selected from Igogo Commercial High School, Igogo-Ekiti (Moba Local Government Area); Ayede Grammar School, Ayede-Ekiti (Oye LGA); and Odo Oro High School, Odo Oro-Ekiti (Ikole LGA). They were recognised for academic excellence in key subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Economics, and Mathematics.

The award presentation took place on Thursday at the 2025 edition of the annual scholarship ceremony held in Odo Oro-Ekiti, where Dr. Owolabi reaffirmed his commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting public education in the state.

“This scholarship award is my modest way of giving back to society and recognising the brilliance of our young students. It is also my contribution to complement the efforts of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who has continued to make remarkable strides in improving education in Ekiti State,” Owolabi said.

He stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in the education sector, adding that the government cannot shoulder the burden of educational development alone.

“The responsibility of funding education should not rest solely on the government. As citizens and community members, we all have a role to play. Supporting our students, particularly those who have demonstrated excellence, is an investment in the future of our state,” he said.

Encouraging the recipients to remain focused and committed to their studies, Dr. Owolabi pledged continued support to ensure their academic progress.

Also speaking at the event, the Principal of Odo Oro High School, Mr. Johnson Oladimeji, who represented the heads of the beneficiary schools, described the scholarship as a laudable intervention and a strong signal of community-driven support for education.

“Rewarding students for their academic achievements is a powerful motivation. This gesture by Dr. Owolabi is not just a gift—it’s an investment in the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” Oladimeji said.

He pledged sustained collaboration between the schools and the donor to promote quality education and create an environment where students can thrive.

“We welcome your ideas, mentorship, and continued partnership as we collectively build a brighter future for our children,” he added.
