Gusau, Zamfara State — February 3, 2026 — The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, has officially commissioned a state‑of‑the‑art library facility at the Federal University Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara State, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic infrastructure development.

Built under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2025 Annual Intervention Programme, the modern library project began in 2021 and was completed during the tenure of the outgoing Vice‑Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar. The facility is designed to cater to the research and learning needs of students and lecturers alike, with a seating capacity for more than 1,100 users and integrated internet services to support digital research and academic pursuits.

Represented at the ceremony by Professor Abubakar, Dr. Alausa said the library was constructed to bring ample research resources directly to students’ doorsteps, thereby enriching teaching, learning and scholarly activity on campus. “This library was constructed with a view to bringing a source of research to the doorstep of the learning students of the University and even beyond,” he remarked.

The facility boasts dedicated sections, well‑stocked shelves and modern internet infrastructure, elements the minister described as critical for nurturing educated and productive future generations capable of advancing national development.

In his remarks, the Vice‑Chancellor highlighted the library’s broader significance, noting that it will not only serve the immediate university community but also contribute positively to the nation’s education landscape. He underscored the link between education and societal stability, stating that improved access to knowledge resources helps address foundational challenges such as illiteracy and insecurity.

Alongside the library, other TETFund‑supported projects were also commissioned at the event, including a 200‑seat lecture theatre for Agricultural Science and an extension block for the Faculty of Science. These additional facilities were unveiled by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arc. Sonny Echono, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Yusufu Ribadu.

The commissioning of these legacy projects underscores continued federal investment in tertiary education infrastructure — a push aimed at enhancing academic quality, widening access to essential learning resources and strengthening the research capacity of universities nationwide.
