KANO — Authorities of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Kano, have dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against the institution’s management.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Abdullahi Datti, Deputy Registrar (Information, Media and Public Relations), the university described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Yakaisa, has shown exceptional leadership rooted in accountability and transparency.
The institution expressed disappointment over ASUU’s accusations, saying they were made despite management’s continuous efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance staff welfare, and create a conducive learning environment.
According to the statement, the university has already taken concrete steps to ensure transparency in its financial operations.
“The management has hired auditors to review the university’s finances from 2020 to 2022, and the reports have been made public. We are currently awaiting the report for 2023,” the release stated. “A new committee has also been constituted to monitor the university’s budget following the dissolution of the old one.”
The university further highlighted ongoing projects, including the renovation of classrooms, technological upgrades for teaching, improvements to the library, and the maintenance of electricity and hostel facilities to ensure a safe and conducive environment for students.
Addressing concerns about employment, the statement explained that the status of certain staff appointments was being reviewed in line with directives from the Ministry of Higher Education, assuring that due process would be followed.
The management accused ASUU of abandoning academic priorities for partisan politics, urging the public to disregard the union’s claims and trust the university’s ongoing reforms and transparent governance.
“Our focus remains on building a world-class science and technology institution driven by innovation, discipline, and accountability,” the release concluded.
