Aliko Dangote, Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, has announced plans to take the conglomerate’s fertiliser business public through an initial public offering (IPO) in 2028.

Aliko Dangote, Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, has announced plans to take the conglomerate’s fertiliser business public through an initial public offering (IPO) in 2028.

Dangote disclosed the plan during an interview with Bloomberg Television, saying the proposed listing would position the fertiliser business among the world’s largest publicly traded fertiliser companies.

“We will IPO it. It’s going to be the biggest fertiliser company on earth. Yes, it will be 2028,” he said.

The proposed listing comes as Dangote Group continues to expand its investments in agriculture, energy and other strategic sectors, with a focus on boosting local production and reducing Africa’s dependence on imports.

Dangote also discussed plans for the proposed IPO of the Dangote refinery, describing the listing as part of a broader strategy to expand public ownership of strategic African assets.

According to him, the refinery’s listing would provide more investors across the continent with an opportunity to participate in the growth of the business.

“For decades, Africa’s most strategic assets have been owned by a limited group of investors. Through this IPO, we are creating an opportunity for millions of Africans to become part-owners of a transformative business that is changing the energy landscape of the continent,” Dangote said.

He said the refinery was conceived as an African response to the continent’s longstanding dependence on imported petroleum products, adding that the facility was central to the group’s strategy of increasing domestic production and strengthening energy security.

Dangote said the group would continue to invest in industries capable of creating jobs, generating foreign exchange and supporting long-term economic development across Africa.

On investor interest in the refinery, he said the demand recorded during its private placement reflected interest from both domestic and international investors.

He added that the group deliberately limited the amount raised through the private placement as part of efforts to encourage broader ownership and participation among African investors.

“Our objective has always been bigger than building a refinery. We want to create institutions that will outlive us, businesses that can compete globally, and opportunities that allow Africans to share in the wealth created on the continent,” he said.

Dangote further stressed the importance of industrialisation to Africa’s economic development, saying the continent has the resources, human capital and market potential required to compete globally.

He said developing industries that process Africa’s resources locally would help create employment, increase domestic production and retain more economic value within the continent.
