The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that the main online recruitment examination for shortlisted candidates in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

According to a statement from the Service, the examination represents a critical stage in its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise aimed at bolstering manpower across the middle and lower ranks of the organization.

The NCS explained that the decision to conduct the examination entirely online was made to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal access for all applicants, regardless of location.

Examination Guidelines

Candidates have been divided into three batches — A, B, and C — and are required to log in to the official portal, https://updates.customs.gov.ng, using their National Identification Number (NIN) to confirm their assigned batch, date, and time.

The Service emphasized that strict adherence to assigned schedules is mandatory, warning that failure to comply may lead to automatic disqualification.

Additionally, applicants are prohibited from using calculators, mobile phones, or any other electronic devices during the test. The NCS further cautioned that multiple log-ins or switching between browser windows during the examination could result in disconnection or termination of participation.

Scope of the Exercise

The NCS clarified that this stage of the examination is exclusive to candidates in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres, while those shortlisted for the Superintendent cadre will be informed of their own phase of the recruitment process at a later date.

Modernising Recruitment

Highlighting the Service’s commitment to modernization, the NCS stated that the introduction of the online examination format aligns with its broader strategy to enhance recruitment efficiency and eliminate human interference in candidate evaluation.

“This process allows for improved transparency and ensures that only qualified candidates advance to the next phase of the recruitment exercise,” the Service noted.

Successful candidates from this stage will proceed to subsequent rounds of the recruitment process, which include physical screening and documentation verification.
