A civic society organisation, MonITNG, has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, to urgently rehabilitate the LEA Nomadic Primary School, Gagare, in Paikon Kore, Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, where deplorable conditions have forced hundreds of pupils out of the classroom.

In a statement, the group described the school as “a disaster waiting to happen,” revealing that more than 478 pupils have stopped attending classes due to the hazardous state of the facilities.

“The roof is gaping open, leaving children at the mercy of rain and scorching heat. Ceiling boards hang precariously, while the cracked, weak walls could collapse in a storm,” the organisation warned.

MonITNG said pupils still attending the school are forced to sit on bare floors, dodge falling debris, and strain to hear lessons through broken windows and open roofs.

According to the group, some parents who can afford it have moved their children to private schools, while others have withdrawn them entirely, either keeping them at home or engaging them in farm work.

The organisation urged Wike and Kingibe to declare a state of emergency in schools across the FCT’s satellite towns, stressing that the children of Gagare deserve safe and dignified learning environments.

“These children cannot wait for another budget cycle, another round of bureaucracy, or another ‘inspection visit’ with no follow-up,” MonITNG stated. “If billions can be allocated to education, then it must reflect in the safety of classrooms, the quality of teaching materials, and the dignity of our learning spaces.”
