Abuja, Nigeria – Another Catholic priest has been kidnapped in Nigeria, raising concerns over the escalating attacks on religious and educational institutions. Father Bobbo Paschal, parish priest of St. Stephen's Parish Church in Kushe Gudgu, Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, was abducted by armed assailants who stormed the rectory in the early hours of November 17.
The Archdiocese of Kaduna confirmed that an unknown number of other people were also taken hostage during the attack. Tragically, the assailants killed Gideon Markus, the brother of another priest, Father Anthony Yero, in the violence.
In a statement, Father Christian Okewu Emmanuel, Chancellor of the Archdiocese, appealed to all people of goodwill to assist in securing the safe release of the abductees:
"We invite all men and women of goodwill to join us in securing the safe release of all those kidnapped as soon as possible."
The incident follows a similar attack earlier the same day, when at least 25 female students were abducted from Maga Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Danko/Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State, highlighting a worrying trend of attacks on both religious leaders and students across Nigeria.
Authorities and the church continue to call for urgent intervention to protect communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
