Six final-year students of the Department of Estate Management, University of Lagos (UNILAG), have been offered automatic employment by leading real estate firm, Jide Taiwo & Co, as part of efforts to bridge the gap between academic training and industry practice.

The firm also announced a ₦1 million scholarship and rewards package for outstanding students, including the overall best graduating student and the best female graduating student, alongside other merit-based recognitions.

The announcement was made during the company’s 2026 Career Day and Job Fair held over the weekend at UNILAG, where industry leaders engaged students on career development within the built environment sector.

Speaking at the event, the Regional Manager, Lagos Island, Bashir Tajudeen, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to developing young professionals and easing their transition from university to workplace.

According to him, the programme was designed to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while equipping students with practical exposure to estate surveying, valuation, and broader real estate practice.

The Career Day featured interactive sessions, career guidance talks, and industry insights aimed at preparing students for real-world challenges in the built environment profession.

Delivering the opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Olumide Adenuga, emphasized that higher education must extend beyond the issuance of certificates to the practical application of knowledge.

“What is of utmost importance is the application of knowledge derived from hours of study and deliberate preparation for life after graduation,” he said.

Also speaking, the Head of Department of Estate Management, Hikmot Koleosho, commended the firm for its sustained partnership with the university, describing it as a model for effective industry-academia collaboration.

She encouraged students to take full advantage of such engagements to better prepare for professional practice after graduation.

In a keynote lecture titled “Classroom to Boardroom: Mapping Your Career Path in the Built Sector,” General Manager, Facilities Management at Jide Taiwo & Co., ESV Adebiyi Ayeni, stressed that success in the profession requires discipline, integrity, and continuous personal development.

He noted that excellence in the estate management field goes beyond academic knowledge, requiring adaptability, experience, and consistent professional growth.

“The profession rewards excellence, integrity, focus, adaptability, experience and continuous growth, far beyond what the classroom alone can offer,” he said.
