CAP Plc Trains 5,000 Painters in Five Years, Targets 15,000 by 2030

Chemical and Allied Products Plc (CAP Plc) has announced that it has trained over 5,000 painters across 14 states in the last five years through its Painters’ Training Academy.

The company’s Chief Operating Officer, Jethro Iruobe, disclosed this in Lagos during the fifth anniversary celebration of the academy. He revealed that at least 56 of the trainees have established their own businesses, with women accounting for 35 per cent of the beneficiaries.

“Our vision is to build sustainable livelihoods while transforming communities. We discovered a knowledge gap in painting, and this academy was created to close that gap, upskill artisans, and empower them to deliver world-class jobs,” Iruobe said.

He added that CAP Plc aims to train 15,000 painters by 2030, positioning the academy as Africa’s foremost painting training institute.

The event also featured the unveiling of the CAP Business Professional Workshop, an advanced programme designed to equip painters with skills in marketing, pricing, and the use of modern technology in painting.

In a major boost to the academy, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) confirmed that graduates of the CAP Academy will now be awarded the NABTEB modular trade certificate in painting and decoration.

CAP Plc’s Capability Development Manager, Charles Michael, explained that trainees were exposed to surface decoration, advanced painting techniques, proper application of decorative paints, identification of paint defects, and use of specialist and waterproofing products.

Similarly, the company’s Customer Service Manager, Oluwatosin Afolabi, stressed that the initiative seeks to reposition painters as professionals with value beyond simply painting walls.

As part of the celebration, Akinade Akindeji won the ₦500,000 business growth grant, while Julius Christopher and Abass Olatunji were honoured as top painters.

Dignitaries present included the General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Kehinde Osinaike; NABTEB representative, Lawani Meka; and officials from the Nigerian Institute of Building, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, among others.
