Calls for urgent and radical reforms in Nigeria’s healthcare sector took center stage at the maiden reunion of the 1993 alumni of the University of Ilorin’s Accounting and Finance Department, held in Lagos.

The two-day event, which ran from August 29 to 30, 2025, brought together members of the 1993 Set of the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association – Finance Students Association (NUASA-FSA), with discussions focused on mentorship, investment partnerships, and national development.

Speaking at the gathering, medical practitioner Oluwaseun ThankGod underscored the need for accessible and well-equipped healthcare facilities to improve preventive care and early diagnosis.
“National growth is impossible without a strong healthcare system, as an unhealthy population cannot drive development,” he said.

Beyond the healthcare conversation, the reunion also celebrated over three decades of professional milestones. Association president, Mr. Emmanuel Ogundipe, described the event as an opportunity to reconnect and harness collective expertise for future collaborations.
“We went through a remarkable four years of study, hard work, and friendship. Since then, we have become leaders in accounting, banking, finance, and other sectors. This reunion gives us a chance to give back and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth,” he said.

The vice-president, Mrs. Tosin Sodeinde, highlighted the emotional and professional value of the event, disclosing that plans were underway to hold reunions annually or biannually. She also recalled the group’s past contributions to their alma mater, including the donation of laptops, desktops, and printers during a recent NUC accreditation exercise.

The reunion gathered accountants, finance experts, and business leaders from diverse industries, reinforcing the alumni’s growing influence in Nigeria’s corporate and economic space.
