The 61st Congregation of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, FSI, for what members described as a remarkable transformation recorded by the institution within the first four months of his administration.
At the Congregation meeting held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, academic and non-teaching staff praised the visible improvements in staff and students’ welfare, academic development and the renewed push for excellence across the university. Professor Musa was given a standing ovation in recognition of the reforms and positive changes already taking shape on campus.
Addressing the gathering as Chairman of the Congregation, the Vice-Chancellor announced that BUK had emerged as the best university in Nigeria in terms of international visibility and ranked third overall nationally in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
He also unveiled plans for the construction of 500 housing units for staff in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank, describing the initiative as part of deliberate efforts to enhance staff welfare, stability and productivity.
According to Professor Musa, the university has also secured several national and international collaborations aimed at strengthening research and innovation. Chief among them is a strategic partnership between BUK and Chinese institutions for the establishment of a China–Africa Joint Key Laboratory for Advanced and Applicable Agricultural Machinery and Equipment.
He said the collaboration would boost BUK’s research capacity, deepen technology transfer and promote innovation in agricultural mechanisation.
Members of the university community expressed satisfaction with the pace and direction of the administration, noting that the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership has been impactful despite the short period in office. They urged the management to sustain the momentum in order to consolidate the gains recorded and further position Bayero University, Kano, as a leading centre of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
