The Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (Emmanuel Alayande University of Education), Oyo State, has approved the appointment of Associate Professor Sikiru Morakinyo Raimi as the institution’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

According to a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju’ Asunmo, the appointment took effect from June 19, 2026, and will run for an initial tenure of two years.

Dr. Raimi, of the Department of Biology and Integrated Science, is a seasoned academic and administrator with over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and institutional management.

Academic Background and Early Life

Born on December 27, 1959, in Oyo West Local Government Area, Raimi began his education at R.C.M. Primary School, Asogo, Oyo, before proceeding to Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo, where he obtained his West African School Certificate.

He later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Biology and Chemistry from the then Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa (Oyo Campus), before proceeding to the University of Benin (University of Benin), where he obtained a Bachelor of Education in Chemistry.

Furthering his academic pursuit, he bagged both a Master’s degree in Science Education and a PhD in Science Education (Chemistry) from the University of Ibadan (University of Ibadan).

Career Progression and Institutional Service

Raimi began his professional teaching career during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Government Secondary School, Ulayi, Otukpo, Benue State. He later served under the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission between 1984 and 1990.

He joined the then St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo, in 1990 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose steadily through the academic ranks to become a Chief Lecturer before the institution transitioned into a university.

Over the years, he has held several strategic academic and administrative roles, including Acting Head and substantive Head of Department of Integrated Science, Director of the Centre for Management Information System (CMIS), Dean of the School of Science, and TETFund Desk Officer. He also coordinated the Ekiti State University degree programme in affiliation with Emmanuel Alayande College of Education.

He currently serves as Head of the Department of Integrated Science, a position he has held since the institution attained university status in 2023.

Scholarly Contributions

The university noted that Raimi has played a key role in institutional development through committee work and governance participation, including membership of the Governing Council of the former college and representation on the university’s inaugural Governing Council.

An accomplished academic, he has authored and co-authored several textbooks and published over 70 scholarly works in reputable journals, conference proceedings, and academic publications. He has also participated in more than 40 academic conferences locally and internationally.

Professionally, he is affiliated with several bodies, including the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (Science Teachers Association of Nigeria), the Nigeria Integrated Science Teachers Project, and the Science and Technology Awareness Network.

Vice-Chancellor’s Remarks

Congratulating the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan, described the appointment as a vote of confidence in Raimi’s leadership capacity and academic pedigree.

“The approval of the recommendation of the University Senate on your appointment by the Governing Council reflects its confidence in your ability to deliver,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “I welcome you into the university administration and look forward to your contributions as an alumnus, scholar and administrator.”

He wished the new DVC a successful tenure in office.
