BMJS Emerges Champion of National Marine and Blue Economy Quiz Competition

Students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary (BMJS), Ikorodu, have clinched the top position in the National Marine and Blue Economy Quiz Competition, organised by the Ocean Ambassadors Foundation (OAF).

The keenly contested three-day competition brought together 1,270 participants from over 100 secondary schools across Nigeria, showcasing their knowledge of marine science, sustainability, and blue economy initiatives.

Speaking at the event, the Head of OAF, Mrs. Olaitan Williams, said the competition was designed to ignite students’ interest in marine-related careers and promote awareness of Nigeria’s vast ocean resources.

In her keynote address, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, commended the organisers for the initiative and urged students to take advantage of such platforms to build rewarding careers in the marine and blue economy sectors.

She also encouraged the participants to uphold integrity and sportsmanship, noting that their commitment to excellence reflects positively on their schools and communities.

The event highlighted the growing relevance of marine education in Nigeria’s quest for economic diversification and sustainable development.
