The Vice Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has reiterated the institution’s dedication to addressing Nigeria’s developmental challenges by training young innovators to provide research-driven solutions to real-life problems.
Speaking during the university’s 17th Convocation Press Conference held on campus, Prof. Ojediran said the university’s philosophy is centered on producing graduates who are job creators rather than job seekers, equipped with entrepreneurial and technical skills to establish sustainable ventures.
“Our students are trained to identify gaps in national development and use research and innovation to close those gaps. At Bells University, we prioritize practical learning and applied research,” he stated.
He cited an example of students who were trained in interlocking production and construction, noting that they executed the interlocking of the university’s premises before graduation and have since gone on to establish their own thriving businesses.
The Vice Chancellor further disclosed that the institution is exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle pressing national issues, including food security and other socio-economic challenges.
Highlighting the university’s steady growth, Ojediran revealed that 1,016 students will graduate during the forthcoming 17th Convocation Ceremony, which coincides with the university’s 20th anniversary celebration. He added that the number of applicants to the institution has doubled—from 2,000 to 4,000—reflecting its rising credibility and academic standards.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the university will honour some pioneer professors and members of the Board of Trustees who contributed to its foundation two decades ago.
Prof. Ojediran also expressed profound appreciation to the university’s founder and former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for his vision, leadership, and consistent support for the institution’s growth.
He further commended the staff for their dedication and contributions over the years, noting that activities lined up for the anniversary include a medical outreach, a convocation lecture, and a goodwill visit to neighbouring communities that have supported the university since inception.
