The governor made the announcement in Bauchi on Tuesday while receiving the report of the visitation panel tasked with investigating the university’s financial and administrative activities. He expressed disappointment over what he described as "persistent financial mismanagement" since the institution’s inception in 2012.
Mohammed noted that a new audit committee would be set up to probe the management of student fees and other internally generated revenue at the university.
Chairperson of the visitation panel, Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, stated that their findings were based on 47 memoranda, including formal complaints submitted by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), citing poor funding and mismanagement.
She added that the visitation covered all SAZU campuses, and that the university’s monthly subvention had recently been increased to ₦400 million. The panel also recommended that the government consider reviewing the university’s multi-campus structure, which it said could be affecting administrative efficiency and financial oversight.
The governor assured the public that the state remains committed to transparency and accountability in the education sector and vowed to implement the panel’s recommendations.
