On Monday, at a formal handover ceremony held at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, pledged to steer the institution under a renewed mission centred on servant leadership and holistic development. Punch Newspapers+1
Prof. Ojewole, speaking shortly after his inauguration, said his administration will build on the core ethos of Babcock — compassion, humility, integrity, inclusion, spiritual grounding, and service to humanity — to produce graduates who are not just academically sound but morally rooted and socially responsible. His strategic plan, aptly titled “G.R.A.C.E.”, aims to nurture globally relevant graduates, research-driven scholars, and individuals grounded in the institution’s faith-based values. Key priorities include staff welfare, academic excellence, character development, technology-driven service delivery, and strengthened institutional integrity. Punch Newspapers+1
In addition, Ojewole announced immediate policy reforms: environmental levy deductions will cease for junior staff and non–resident workers; a Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Commission will begin proceedings to address grievances; and a new digital platform, “BUVoice”, will open channels for feedback, ideas and transparent communication across the university community. He also promised tangible improvements: procurement of a new bus to ease student transport on fieldwork and clinical placements, and renewed emphasis on character formation, spiritual growth, entrepreneurship and academic rigor — underscoring his commitment to build “servant-leaders for a better world.” Punch Newspapers+1
As the leadership baton passes from outgoing VC Prof. Ademola Tayo — whose decade-long tenure saw major infrastructural and academic expansion — there is cautious optimism that the new administration’s G.R.A.C.E. agenda may propel Babcock into a new era of ethically grounded scholarship and service-oriented education.
