Akwa Ibom State University has secured regulatory approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence sixteen new undergraduate programmes, marking a major expansion of its academic portfolio ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approval, conveyed in an official statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga, FNIM, underscores what university authorities describe as a strategic move to broaden professional, technical, and creative learning opportunities across its Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, and the Obio Akpa Campus in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

According to the release, the NUC’s endorsement reflects confidence in the institution’s infrastructure, staffing strength, curriculum development, and overall readiness to deliver quality training in critical sectors of national development.

The newly approved programmes cut across health sciences, environmental design, management sciences, arts, education, social sciences, and engineering. They include:

  1. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D)

  2. B.A. Music

  3. B.Sc. Architecture

  4. B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning

  5. B.Sc. Estate Management

  6. B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics

  7. B.Sc. Building

  8. B.Sc. Quantity Surveying

  9. B.Sc. Fine and Applied Arts

  10. B.Sc. Local Government and Development Studies

  11. B.Sc. Project Management

  12. B.Sc. Peace and Conflict Resolution

  13. B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling

  14. B.Eng. Automotive Engineering

  15. B.Eng. Computer Engineering

  16. B.Eng. Telecommunications Engineering

In the signed statement, Dr. Eno-Ibanga confirmed that the institution fulfilled all stipulated regulatory requirements prior to the approval. She noted that the authorization takes effect from the 2025/2026 academic session and formally opens the programmes to prospective candidates.

She further assured applicants that detailed information regarding entry requirements, screening procedures, cut-off marks, and departmental guidelines will be disseminated through the university’s verified communication channels to ensure clarity and prevent misinformation.

With admissions into the newly accredited disciplines now underway, the university’s management reiterated its commitment to academic excellence, industry-relevant training, and research-driven instruction across both campuses. The expansion is widely viewed as a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing drive to strengthen its role in manpower development and innovation within Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
