The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) will today, Thursday, October 16, 2025, host its 291st inaugural lecture, to be delivered by Professor Emmanuel Olugbade Ojo of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Titled “The Worship of an Unknown Deity,” the lecture will take place at the university’s Main Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. It will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN).
The event is expected to draw academics, policymakers, students, and members of the public, in continuation of UNILORIN’s long-standing tradition of fostering intellectual dialogue and promoting scholarly excellence.
Professor Ojo, a distinguished scholar in Comparative Politics and Governance, holds B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science from the University of Ibadan. He has earned recognition for his extensive research on democratic governance, civil-military relations, and institutional reform in Nigeria and across Africa.
Beyond academia, Ojo also boasts a notable public service career. He served as Political Adviser and later as Chief of Staff during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State.
The lecture is expected to offer a critical exploration of the complexities of political power, leadership, and the paradoxes of governance—issues that remain deeply relevant in Nigeria’s current socio-political landscape.
