The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has appointed Professor Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole as the institution's first female Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Oduwole, a renowned academic and administrator, brings to the role a distinguished career spanning over 39 years in the Nigerian university system. Her appointment marks a historic milestone in the university's leadership, as she prepares to take over from Prof. Timothy Adebayo, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor concludes in a few months.
An alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Oduwole earned both her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Philosophy. She further advanced her academic journey with a Master of Science in Bioethics from a prestigious European consortium comprising Katholieke University Leuven (Belgium), Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), and the University of Padova (Italy). She later obtained her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan.
Prof. Oduwole began her academic career at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in 1985 and steadily rose to the rank of Professor of African Philosophy. Her areas of expertise include Ethics, Bioethics, Philosophy of Religion, Gender Studies, and African Studies.
Throughout her tenure at OOU, she held several key leadership roles, earning a reputation for excellence in academic administration and a deep commitment to institutional development.
Her appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective and visionary leadership to Ajayi Crowther University as it continues to grow in stature within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
