The National Association of Students of English Language and Literary Studies (NASELLS), in collaboration with Education Television Nigeria (EduTV NG), is set to host the Dr. Adedeji Adeleke Inter-University Debate, a major intellectual event aimed at promoting civic awareness and critical thinking among Nigerian university students.

The debate, named in honour of renowned educationist and philanthropist Adedeji Adeleke, will take place on the 10th of March 2026 at the Performing Arts Theatre of Adeleke University, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The event is being organised by NASELLS in collaboration with Education Television Nigeria (EduTV NG), an educational media platform committed to promoting learning, intellectual engagement, and youth development across Nigeria.

Themed “Youth Participation in Elections: A Necessity or an Option?”, the debate will bring together students from ten universities across Nigeria to deliberate on the role of young people in the country’s democratic process. The event is expected to provide a platform for vibrant intellectual engagement, persuasive argumentation, and informed discussions on electoral participation among youths.

Participating universities include Adeleke University, University of Ibadan, Redeemer’s University, Babcock University, Bowen University, KolaDaisi University, Ajayi Crowther University, University of Ilorin, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, and Fountain University.

The debate is also being held in celebration of the birthday of Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, recognising his contributions to education and youth development in Nigeria through his leadership and support for academic initiatives.

At the end of the competition, three outstanding winners will emerge based on their analytical depth, clarity of argument, and overall debating skills.

The initiative aims to encourage university students to engage with national issues, strengthen their public speaking abilities, and inspire greater youth involvement in democratic governance. The debate also aligns with EduTV NG’s broader mission of promoting educational development and intellectual discourse among young Nigerians.

The event is expected to attract academics, students, and public affairs enthusiasts who are interested in discussions around democracy, leadership, and the future of youth participation in Nigeria’s electoral system.
