On Friday, 27th February 2026, Adeleke University hosted a highly engaging inter-faculty debate, organized by EduTV NG, which was sponsored by Moniepoint MFB, Kejiayok Chemicals, and R2P Connect. The debate centered on the topical issue: “Resolving Nigeria's Insecurity: Is Military Intervention More Effective than Socio-Economic Reforms?”. The event provided a platform for students to showcase their analytical skills, public speaking abilities, and deep understanding of national issues.

The Vice Chancellor of Adeleke University was acknowledged for his support of academic initiatives, while the Student Union body, led by Vice President Adebunmi Abiodun Taofeeq, actively encouraged and motivated participants throughout the competition. Other notable attendees included the Dean of Student Care, Pastor Doctor Abraham Aremu, and a lecturer from the Faculty of Science, Mr. Fagbayike Ilerioluwa, who observed and supported the debaters.

The debate was expertly organized and managed by EduTV Director, Mr. Femi Oluwaleimu, with the judging panel comprising Chief Judge Professor Lanre Idowu (OAU), Supporting Judge Mr. Kehinde Emmanuel, Moderator Mr. Opeyemi Olaoluwa, and Time Keeper Miss Alabi Blessing. Behind-the-scenes coordination was handled by EduTV crew members Mr. John Afolabi and Miss Boluwatife Adebayo.

Students from six faculties competed with distinction, each presenting well-researched arguments and engaging the audience with compelling insights:

Afolayan Moyinoluwa Racheal (Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences – FBMS) impressed the judges with her clarity, structured arguments, and emphasis on socio-economic reforms as a solution to insecurity. Her faculty scored 83%, and she emerged as the overall winner.
Adah Stella Winnie (Faculty of Law) presented strong legal and policy-based interventions, countering opposing points effectively. Her faculty earned 82.5%, making her the first runner-up.
Oladeji Hannah Eniola (Faculty of Science) combined evidence-based reasoning with innovative approaches to national security, earning her faculty 75.5% and placing second runner-up.
Adeyemi Boluwatife (Faculty of Engineering) provided insights on the role of technology and infrastructure in enhancing security, with the faculty scoring 73.5%.
Ayomide Carrena (Faculty of Business and Social Sciences – FBSS) emphasized the importance of economic and social programs in maintaining long-term security, earning 70% for her faculty.
Ignatius Uchenna Gloria (Faculty of Arts) highlighted societal awareness and cultural engagement as vital in tackling insecurity, with the faculty scoring 66.5%.

Following several rounds of compelling arguments and thoughtful rebuttals, Afolayan Moyinoluwa Racheal walked away with ₦100,000 and additional prizes. Adah Stella Winnie received ₦50,000, while Oladeji Hannah Eniola earned ₦30,000.

The debate was not only a contest of skill but also an educative platform, enabling students to critically examine national security challenges, explore diverse perspectives, and enhance their analytical and public speaking abilities. It reinforced the importance of informed dialogue and intellectual engagement in addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues.
