Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has lauded teachers as the foundation of all professions and the cornerstone of national development, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their welfare and professional growth.
The governor made the remarks during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day Celebration, themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborating Profession”, held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun said the theme reflects the need to reimagine the teaching profession as one built on teamwork, mentorship, shared learning, and mutual support.
“Teaching is not an isolated endeavour but a collective mission that draws strength from cooperation among teachers, parents, communities, and government,” the governor said.
He noted that education extends beyond classroom instruction—it shapes values, vision, and the vitality of entire generations. According to him, this is why his administration continues to make significant investments in education through the ‘Building Our Future Together Agenda’, focusing on teacher welfare, digital literacy, professional training, and infrastructural renewal.
Governor Abiodun described teachers as “the true builders of society,” adding that the prosperity of Ogun State depends largely on their dedication and passion.
“We will continue to support our teachers with the tools, technology, and environment they need to thrive. Only then can we secure the future of our children and build a more enlightened and prosperous Ogun State,” he assured.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, commended teachers for their dedication and reaffirmed that the administration would continue to prioritise their welfare.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, and the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, hailed teachers as “the silent architects of progress and torchbearers of civilisation.” They urged them to remain united, embrace technology, and continue collaborating with parents, communities, and government.
On their part, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sewakanu Oladipupo, and his counterpart in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, praised the government for maintaining a cordial relationship with the teaching workforce and advancing education reforms in the state.
They, however, called for special incentives such as welfare packages for families of teachers who die in active service, the establishment of education trust funds for out-of-school children, and the introduction of e-lesson notes to align with global best practices.
