The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has disbursed ₦5 billion in scholarships to 30,000 students across the North-West geopolitical zone, marking one of the largest single educational interventions in recent years.
The official launch took place at the newly established Federal University of Education, Zaria, where students from Jigawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kano, and Katsina states gathered to benefit from the scheme.
Under the programme, each beneficiary received between ₦200,000 and ₦800,000, depending on their field of study. Abbas described the initiative as not merely financial support but a deliberate investment in the region’s human capital and the nation’s long-term growth.
“This is what public service should feel like—impactful and transformational,” the Speaker said, recalling the excitement of students who received their scholarship alerts.
The intervention is expected to ease the financial burden on thousands of families while empowering students in critical disciplines to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
