The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nigeria has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that Nigerian students are eligible to apply for the Czech Government Scholarship Programme for the 2027/2028 academic year.
The embassy, in a statement issued on Monday, clarified that Nigeria is not among the countries eligible to participate in the scholarship programme for the 2027/2028 academic session.
The clarification followed the circulation of information on various online platforms suggesting that Nigerian students could apply for the Czech Government Scholarship.
According to the embassy, the information is inaccurate.
“For the 2027/2028 academic year, Nigeria is not among the countries eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship programme,” the embassy stated.
It urged prospective applicants to disregard information published on unofficial websites that list Nigeria among the eligible countries.
The embassy said it was aware of the strong interest among Nigerian students in pursuing higher education in the Czech Republic and acknowledged that the clarification could be disappointing to prospective applicants.
“We know that many Nigerian students are interested in studying in the Czech Republic, and we understand that this may be disappointing news,” it said.
“Unfortunately, the Czech Government Scholarship is not available to applicants from Nigeria this year.”
The diplomatic mission advised Nigerian students seeking information about scholarship opportunities in the Czech Republic to rely only on official sources.
It specifically directed prospective applicants to the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, an organisation responsible for providing information on international education and study opportunities.
The embassy further cautioned students against relying on unofficial websites or social media posts claiming that Nigeria is eligible for the 2027/2028 Czech Government Scholarship.
The clarification is expected to prevent prospective applicants from making unnecessary preparations or falling victim to misleading information based on the false eligibility claim.
The embassy thanked Nigerian students for their understanding and wished prospective applicants success in their academic pursuits.
