Staff of the School of Arts, Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), have celebrated the achievements of Dr. Stella Mofunanya, immediate past Rector of the Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), describing her tenure as marked by transformative leadership and groundbreaking milestones.

At a “homecoming” ceremony in Lagos, Mofunanya was honoured as the first female alumnus of Yabatech to serve as Rector in another institution and return to her alma mater with distinction.

Dean of Arts, Design and Printing, Dr. Chinyere Ndubuisi, praised Mofunanya’s record of excellence, saying she leaves an indelible mark wherever she serves and deserves to be celebrated always.

Speakers highlighted her notable accomplishments at RECTEM, including growing student enrolment from 52 to several hundred, securing multiple accreditations for National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and part-time programmes, and establishing Nigeria’s first wellness centre in a higher institution — leveraging her expertise as a certified naturopathic doctor.

She was also commended for representing Nigeria in continental associations of Vice-Chancellors and Rectors, and for becoming the first Rector from a private institution to serve on the board of the Association of Rectors in Nigeria.

Colleagues described her as a leader who uplifted others, encouraged younger staff, promoted healthy work-life balance, and fostered a family-like atmosphere.

In her remarks, Mofunanya expressed gratitude for her return to Yabatech and optimism for the future. “I believe the future is in God’s hands. While I have received offers from private institutions, I am prioritising rest and reflection. I have no regrets — I went in with a mission and returned with joy. Whatever lies ahead, I know I’m back home where I started,” she said.
