Retired staff members of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), have appealed to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to urgently intervene in the payment of their outstanding pensions, gratuities and other entitlements.
The BOUESTI Pensioners Association made the appeal in a letter dated September 7, 2026, and addressed to the governor.
The letter was signed by the association’s Chairman, Dr Kola Ajaja, and Public Relations Officer, Alao Odeyemi.
The pensioners said their outstanding demands included the full payment of their August 2026 pension and the payment of the remaining 50 per cent arrears of the July pension.
They also called for the settlement of pension arrears arising from the implementation of the new minimum wage and the 20 to 28 per cent pension increase.
Other demands listed by the association include the implementation of the 2019 consequential adjustment in pension payments and the settlement of outstanding gratuities owed to retired workers.
The pensioners expressed concern over the impact of the delayed payments on their welfare, saying the situation had subjected many members to severe financial hardship and health challenges.
They said some retirees had suffered ill-health and, in some cases, untimely deaths, particularly because many depended solely on their monthly pensions to afford medication and meet other basic needs.
According to the association, immediate intervention by the governor would help retirees meet their healthcare expenses and other essential needs while preventing further avoidable deaths.
The pensioners said they deliberately chose to appeal to the governor rather than stage public protests because of their confidence in his administration’s willingness to address their concerns.
“We have chosen to send this appeal to you (the governor) rather than embark on public protests because we believe that you will answer our prayers with utmost urgency,” they said.
