The US Department of Defense has launched an investigation into Senator Mark Kelly, a military veteran, following his appearance in a video urging active-duty soldiers not to obey illegal orders.
Kelly was among six Democratic lawmakers featured in the broadcast last week, which prompted former President Donald Trump to call for their prosecution for sedition.
In response, Kelly issued a statement asserting he would not be intimidated by the investigation.
The potential court-martial of the former Navy captain follows the dismissal of two high-profile cases involving a former FBI director and the New York Attorney General — both critics of Trump. While the decision can be appealed, CNN noted that it could reshape Trump’s controversial attempts to target political adversaries.
