A wave of pride and achievement swept through the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as the prestigious institution announced that 167 of its graduating students will be awarded First Class Honours during its 54th convocation ceremony.
The convocation festivities commenced with a press briefing at the Enugu Campus, where the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, shared the institution’s latest academic milestones and outlined the roadmap for future advancement.
“These figures reflect not only the resilience and diligence of our students but also the unwavering dedication of our faculty and staff,” Professor Ujam said, addressing journalists at the event.

A total of 9,821 students will be conferred with first degrees and diplomas in what is being hailed as one of the university’s largest convocation cohorts in recent years.
First Class Honours: 167
Second Class Upper Division: 3,485
Second Class Lower Division: 5,217
Third Class: 739

Unclassified Degrees: 180
In addition to undergraduate degrees, 1,892 postgraduate degrees and diplomas will be awarded. This includes:

Beyond the celebration of academic laurels, Professor Ujam unveiled a forward-thinking initiative under his administration: the creation of the Directorate of Grants and Scholarships.
“This directorate is not just a bureaucratic addition—it’s a strategic leap forward,” he noted. “Our goal is to position UNN as a leading hub for research funding, innovation, and international academic collaboration.”
The Directorate is designed to streamline the university’s capacity to attract external funding, support groundbreaking research, and provide scholarships to deserving students. It signals a bold step in reinforcing UNN's vision as a cradle of knowledge in Africa and beyond.
