The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced a total ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students, warning that violators will face strict disciplinary measures, including rustication, expulsion, or withdrawal of certificates.

The prohibition was contained in a circular issued on Tuesday in Benin by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ademola Bobola, following a management meeting held on Monday. The circular reaffirmed an earlier Senate resolution prohibiting such activities within the institution.

According to the statement, the university management declared that no form of sign-out celebration — including signing on T-shirts, playing of loud music, or any other social display — would be tolerated on campus.

Bobola further stressed that UNIBEN would not condone any form of disorderly conduct, unauthorised gatherings, or parades around the campus during or after examinations.

“Indiscriminate parading in any brand of vehicle will not be permitted. Unauthorised vehicles will also be denied entry into the campuses throughout the final week of the second-semester examinations,” the circular read.

The management also prohibited large gatherings around faculties, schools, and institutes after examinations, while warning photographers against setting up photo stands or galleries for sign-out purposes.

In addition, parents and guardians of final-year students were advised to stay away from the university premises during the final examination period.

Bobola explained that the measures were aimed at maintaining discipline, order, and academic decorum within the institution.

“Members of the university community are kindly invited to note the above position for strict compliance. Any violation will attract severe disciplinary sanctions,” the Registrar stated.
