Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday across the state to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.
This announcement was made through an official statement issued on Thursday by the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Rasheed Aderigbigbe.
According to the statement, the holiday is meant to enable Muslim faithful in the state to observe and celebrate the Hijrah—a significant date in the Islamic calendar commemorating Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah—with their families and loved ones.
“The government recognizes the importance of this occasion in the lives of our Muslim brothers and sisters. It is a time for reflection, prayer, and unity,” the statement read.
Governor Adeleke also used the opportunity to call for peace, religious tolerance, and continued prayers for the progress and stability of Osun State and the nation at large.
The declaration was widely welcomed by the Muslim community, who lauded the state government’s gesture as a recognition of their religious heritage.
