Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has graduated a total of 6,562 students at its 49th Convocation Ceremony, marking another milestone in the institution’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and leadership development.
The multi-day ceremony brought together university administrators, government officials, parents, alumni and guests, as graduates were conferred with first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral qualifications across various faculties and disciplines.
Speaking at the event, the university’s leadership commended the graduating students for their resilience and commitment, particularly in navigating the academic demands of recent years. Graduates were urged to uphold the values of integrity, excellence and service for which OAU is globally renowned.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the institution remains committed to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also socially responsible and equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development. He encouraged the new alumni to act as worthy ambassadors of the university wherever they find themselves.
The convocation also featured the award of prizes and honours to outstanding students, as well as the conferment of honorary degrees on distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to society.
OAU’s 49th convocation ceremony further reinforced the university’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading centres of learning, research and innovation.
