Ned Nwoko Awards 90 Full Scholarships to Delta North Students at Sports University of Nigeria

The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has awarded full scholarships to 90 outstanding students from the district to study at the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko.

Announcing the initiative over the weekend, Nwoko said the gesture was aimed at fostering both academic and athletic excellence among young people in Delta North.

“I believe true development comes when we invest in the minds and talents of our young people,” he said. “This is more than financial assistance; it is an investment in a generation that will combine academic excellence with athletic brilliance. By nurturing scholar-athletes, we are building ambassadors who will represent Delta North and Nigeria with pride, both in the classroom and on the field.”

The beneficiaries — 10 from each of the district’s nine local government areas — will enjoy a four-year tuition-free education, access to world-class sports facilities, modern infrastructure, 24-hour electricity, high-speed internet, safe campus accommodation, and state-of-the-art sporting complexes.

Nwoko, who established the Sports University of Nigeria, described the institution as the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, offering accredited programmes in mass communication, management and social sciences, sports science and allied health sciences, as well as science and architecture.

He stressed that selection for the scholarship required both academic merit and proven talent in at least one sport. “The first set of awardees will resume this academic session, embarking on a journey that will prepare them for global opportunities. I remain committed to creating pathways for our youth to dream bigger, achieve more, and redefine what is possible,” he added.
