The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has issued a stern public warning following the circulation of a forged admission invitation letter purportedly addressed to one Abubakar Washima, falsely claiming he had secured entry into the prestigious military institution.
The development, which has sparked concern among prospective candidates and their families, highlights the increasing sophistication of admission-related fraud schemes targeting young Nigerians aspiring to join the armed forces. Academy authorities clarified that the document did not originate from the institution and described it as a calculated attempt to mislead the public and exploit the ambitions of unsuspecting applicants.
In an official statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) platform, the Academy Public Relations Officer, Reuben Kovangiya, categorically dissociated the academy from the fraudulent correspondence.
“The Nigerian Defence Academy wishes to inform the general public that the purported invitation letter addressed to one Abubakar Washima informing him of being selected into the NDA is fake and did not originate from the NDA,” the statement read.
The clarification, according to the academy, was necessary to remove any ambiguity surrounding the authenticity of the letter and to reassure stakeholders that its admission procedures remain secure and uncompromised.
Providing further insight, the NDA reiterated its established protocol for notifying successful candidates. It emphasized that official invitations for screening exercises or offers of admission are never issued through unofficial channels. Rather, all legitimate communications are published in national dailies and on the academy’s official website.
By restating this transparent process, the institution underscored that there is no provision for private letters or unverified digital messages in its admission system, a reminder aimed at preventing applicants from falling prey to fraudulent actors who capitalize on limited information and heightened expectations during admission cycles.
The academy urged members of the public to exercise vigilance and treat unsolicited admission documents with extreme caution. It advised that any suspicious communication allegedly linked to its admission process should be reported immediately through its official direct messaging platforms for verification.
