Misconduct: NYSC Penalizes 41 Corps Members in Bayelsa

No fewer than 41 Corps members of the 2024 Batch B, Stream 1, service year, of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa State have been penalised over acts of alleged misconduct and violatio..

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sanctioned 35 corps members from the 2023 Batch A, Stream II in Bayelsa State for various infractions against the scheme's code of conduct. The disciplinary measures include service extensions and mandatory repetition of the service year.

According to Mrs. Obiageli Okpalifo, the NYSC State Coordinator in Bayelsa, 21 corps members had their service year extended, while 14 were mandated to repeat the entire service year due to offenses such as absenteeism and abscondment

Despite these infractions, a total of 1,075 corps members successfully completed their service year and were issued certificates of national service. Mrs. Okpalifo commended these individuals for their dedication and contributions to the state's development.

She also expressed gratitude to the employers and traditional rulers in various host communities for providing a conducive environment for the corps members. Special appreciation was extended to Governor Douye Diri for his welfare initiatives and efforts in ensuring the safety of corps members in the state.

Furthermore, corps members who distinguished themselves during the service year were recognized with certificates of commendation. Mrs. Okpalifo highlighted the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training Programmes, noting that many corps members took advantage of these opportunities to prepare for self-reliance and potential entrepreneurship after their service year.

The NYSC continues to emphasize discipline and adherence to its code of conduct, aiming to instill values of integrity and responsibility among Nigerian youths during their mandatory national service.
