The Lagos State University (LASU) has announced stricter regulations on filming activities within its campus following a staged banditry scene by individuals creating online content, which triggered panic among students and staff.
The incident, which involved the unauthorized simulation of a security threat for a video production, reportedly caused fear and confusion within the university community before authorities confirmed that no real danger existed. University management described the act as irresponsible and capable of undermining campus security and public order.
In a statement released by the institution, LASU management condemned the incident and emphasized that all forms of filming, skits or content creation on campus must receive prior approval from the appropriate university authorities. The university warned that violators would face disciplinary measures in line with institutional regulations.
The management stressed that while it supports creativity and freedom of expression, such activities must not compromise safety or disrupt academic activities. Students and visitors were advised to adhere strictly to campus rules and to avoid actions that could incite panic or misrepresent the institution.
LASU also reiterated its commitment to ensuring a secure learning environment and called on members of the university community to promptly report suspicious activities to campus security officials.
The move underscores growing concerns among Nigerian universities over the misuse of campuses as backdrops for unregulated social media content, particularly when such content poses security risks.
